The Proficiency Medical First Aid is a 4-day course that satisfies the training requirements of crew members with designated first aid duties on board. The course forms part of the MCA Chief Mate 3000GT requirement and is also a prerequisite for the 2nd Engineer Officer Small Vessel Certificate of Competency as well as the PYA / IAMI GUEST Senior CoC.
Course Overview:
Candidates will be required to show competence at applying immediate First-aid in the event of an accident or illness onboard. Students will be assessed on their ability to identify the probable cause, nature, and extent of injuries in a prompt manner as well as their ability to conform to the international guidelines of best first aid practice. Being able to treat the patient and their condition effectively while minimizing the risk of harm to self and others is key.

- Cardiac arrest, drowning & asphyxia
Prerequisites:
Elementary First Aid (STCW A-VI/1-3)
Minimum Age 16
